All books are judged in five categories (plot, characters, originality, voice, cover) by both Z and M and an additional category (banter for M/annoyance for Z) that depends on the reviewer. The categories are judged on the scale below:
1/5 -> Not for us. This rating is reserved for the few books that actually made reading seem more like a chore than a pleasure.
2/5 -> Meh. It wasn't the worst thing ever written...but it certainly had a number of issues.
3/5 -> 'Twas average. Like a paper mache volcano at a science fair.
4/5 -> Was great--definitely worth reading and possibly even buying.
5/5 -> Go buy the book. Now. Why are you still reading this? Go!
Specifically, this is what we're looking for in each category:
PLOT - Did the book actually have a purpose? Was the plot well thought out?
CHARACTERS - Are the characters likable? It's generally bad if we cringe every time we see their name on the page.
ORIGINALITY - Is the concept new or can we easily find an eerily similar book on every bookshelf in the country?
VOICE - Is the book written well?
COVER - Is the cover appealing? Will it make the average book store browser buy it?
BANTER - M really likes well-written dialogue between characters, so she judges how well each book pulls this off.
ANNOYANCE: Z is easily annoyed by books, so she judges how approachable (re: not annoying) the book was for her.
